Idioms

For this task I created my own idiom. What is an idiom, an idiom is a sentence that isn’t real and is a figurative. My idiom was be your own sheapered, which means don’t be a sheep be your own leader. One thing I found intersting about this task is that we use idioms but don’t know when we use them.

Pourqoui Story

For this task I created a Pourquoi story talking about the Maungarei and what happend when it erupted.

Long ago, far back in the mistis of time when the world was very young and dinosaurs once ruled the earth, there once lived a young mountain called Maungarei the Raging Demon. It was long ago one day and this present day this was one of the weeks that we called the terror of destruction. It was 9:00pm as the earth rumbled and shaked with terror, all the people looking outside of their windows at magungra. As the people looked up they noticed something far in the distance.

“It can’t be” as I mentioned with fear.

The volcano was about to erupt. The people of our village ran for their lives as the raging demon started gushing molten magma with hot rock flying far distances, people were getting hit and killed by the eruption. This day was one of the worst days of my life. As the lava reached the surface, people nearby started getting water to put out the lava, but it was no use and by the time people got close they burned like no other.

The raging demon erupted for 2 weeks straight no breaks just the gushing out magma spitting out of it. The people of our village had no chance but to take cover and hide somewhere far far away. The explosion kept on happening day by day with each day starting to cool down. But something happened and Mt Maungarei didn’t stop erupting. We all came to our senses thinking this is it as the lava started reaching us as we lost breath. Some people even get burned from meters away because of the intense heat.

Maungarei started to feel disengaged as her lava started to cool down

“Heyy where are you guys going”   confused Maungarei

“Your too destructive and so were leaving”  demanded the village chief

“Please don’t leave i’ll be very lonely”  as she answered full of sadness

“Sorry Maungarei but you’re already caused enough damage” as they walked away.

The people of the villages left and Maungarei became lonely. Soon after a while she regretted her actions and felt destroyed for the destruction she has caused to the villages. When she calmed down the villagers came back to their home and asked Maungare if it would ever erupt again.

“No, I promise to be in a deep sleep and never wake up from my slumber“answered Maungarei.

The villagers became delighted and carried on rebuilding their villages together. And soon the story of Maungarei the raging demon was told throughout generations and is now extinct this present day.

I enjoyed this task because I got to learn on how to create my own pourquoi story.

Diary of the past

LI: To use the ideas on your plan to help you write a diary entry through the eyes of a soldier who lived through WW1.

For this task I created a vidoe that talks abut what happend during the WW1.I have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. I looked at videos of life in the trenches,  and read about Hami Graces diary. I used Google ids to record my diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to voice over diarys. Something I found interesting about this was that 8,700  Australian and 2,779 New Zealand soldiers were killed at Gallipoli during the First World War

Time Travelers prodcast Samurel Marsden

For this task I created a podcast ft Ssamurel Marsden. Our group created a script about what Samurel Marsden would have said when the time travelers went back in time to go grap him. Samurel Marsden in the podcast is played by Vaingalo and the 3 host Darius, Daniel, and Rekard. Something I enjoyed about this task is the podcasting and recording of the scenory and the background of our script.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves. I found this hard and difficult because I don’t understand that much maori and reading the words were even more difficult but at the end I finished my Pepeha and the DLO.

Expectations

At the start of the 2025 learning year LS2 had a descusion about how we could make the most of our learning time to be able to do this we expect to be able to learn new things and collaborate with others. Next we communicated with each other to explain the expectations we learnt and what our teachers expectations are.

A Tale of Two Paths

For this task we have been using papyrusAI to help with our writing. PapyrusAI uses generative AI which means it helps to create patterns in words with Large, Language, Models. We used our knowledge of  two fairy tales, Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White and merged them together to make one whole story that I had to write. I really liked merging two stories together and making a story using two fairy tales.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Little Red Riding Hood who lived in a small, darkening cottage with tall trees surrounding it, letting no sunlight through. It was cold, and she was told that her grandma was sick. She had to deliver a basket full of freshly baked muffins to her as her mother warned her never to talk to strangers. She promised to keep safe and set off into the cold woods.

Meanwhile, Snow White lived in a huge castle visible from all around the woods. She lived with her stepmum and father, but her stepmum hated Snow White. One day, Snow White’s step mom asked her magic mirror, “Who is the fairest of them all?” The mirror replied, “You are beautiful, but Snow White is more beautiful than them all.” Furious, the step mom ordered her men to take Snow White into the woods to never return. Alone in the dark woods, amid strange sounds, Snow White bumped into Little Red Riding Hood. “Who are you?” asked Snow White. “I am Little Red Riding Hood, trying to get to my grandma’s cottage,” she replied. “I don’t know where I’m going,” admitted Snow White. “Is it alright if I come with you?” “Of course,” said Little Red Riding Hood, and off they went to her grandma’s cottage.

As they walked happily towards grandma’s house, they stumbled upon Snow White’s step mom, disguised as an old grandma and a dark figure deep in the woods, but they couldn’t make out what it was. “Hello, young ladies, do you care for an apple?” said the stepmom in disguise. Although the apple was poisoned, stronger than anything else, they didn’t notice. But Red Riding Hood was suspicious of the old lady, and Snow White took the apple and a BIG BITE! After a few seconds, Snow White came crashing down to the ground, and the old lady was nowhere to be seen.

Little Red Riding Hood saw Snow White fumble to the ground. “I knew we should never have trusted her,” said Red Riding Hood. Meanwhile, in Snow White’s head, she thought, “It must have been my step mom because she always hated me and knew different spells.” While Red Riding Hood was looking for help, the figure got closer and closer. “Ahhhh!” screamed Red Riding Hood. It was the wolf, and it started chasing her down the woods. But as soon as it caught up to her, a large, bright light shone upon them—it was a beautiful prince, and the forest was filled with his light. “What a beautiful girl, who is she?” asked the prince, not knowing that the wolf was in terror at the sight of him. The wolf ran back into the forest. “This is my friend Snow White,” said Red Riding Hood. “Is it alright if I take her home to heal her?” asked the prince. Red Riding Hood agreed, and then the prince’s men came to carry Snow White. But as soon as they picked her up, the piece of apple fell out of her mouth. She saw the beautiful prince and fell in love with him, and the three went to his castle and lived a happy life.

Just as they prepared to leave, the wolf suddenly reappeared, looking sheepish and apologetic. “I’ve brought you an apple pie to make up for my mistake,” he said, his eyes full of regret. The three of them exchanged wary glances, remembering the poisoned apple from before. Suspicious of another trick from Snow White’s step mom, they politely declined the pie. The disappointed wolf nodded and slinked back into the forest, never to return.

Speech

For this task I created my own speech about why smoking should be illegal and why you shouldn’t smoke. First I picked a topic I was going to write my speech about, then I wrote a rhetorical question luring the reading deeper into the speech. After I wrote paragraph 1, 2 explained the main details about what could happen if you smoked more than five cigarettes a day. We lastly recorded ourselves reading our speeches using the adobe products app.

Persuasive Language Features

LI: to explore the language features of a persuasive text.

For this task I have been learning about persuasive writing and how it helps us get ready for the school speech competition later in this term. Persuasive writing is used when you want to make others think like you. Yesterday we were looking closely at the language features used in a persuasive text. I have chosen to share the persuasive language feature of XX. I think authors use this language feature to make the other people agree with what the author is talking about about.

2 words 2 minutes.

For this task we used the ‘2 words 2 minute’ challenge to write a description about the ancient olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the ancient  olympics we created a list of words (vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘Greece’ and ‘athletes’ to help us think about what we were going to write.

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 2 minutes to put those ideas into sentences. After the time was up we had 2 minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

This activity was intresting because I have never done it before and I liked the gamnes.
