Shearers Stirke

For this task our main focus this week was learning and exploring about the shearers strike. Our group looked at the two perspectives of the shearers strike. When we read both of them we formed an opinion of which we thought was a better argument than the other. our main focus this week was learning and exploring about the shearers strike.

Malala Yousafzai

For this task Me and my group created a poster about Malala Yousafzai, and how she stood up for womens rights to learn and be educated.
She wanted Women to have equal rights to go to school but as she was on the bus the talibman shot her on the left side of her forehead and had to undergo a lot of surgery and plastic surgery to make her more confident in herself. Time passed and she got back and started making a speech about why women’s should have their rights. She stood tall with pride and justice and people all over the world acknowledge her from this day forward for having bravery and even though that she got shot she still wanted to raise her voice so that other can hear her. I enjoyed this task because I look up to Malala Yousafzai by having the confidence to stand up their in front of the world governments of the United Natioan at 16 years old saying her speech so I really look up to her. Something I found Interesting was that after getting shot she didn’t get silenced by the bullet but spoke with pride. “Empower others with the Weapon of Knowlege” That was her sentence that I acknowledge.

Once a Panther

For this task I read the text Once a Panther and asked to create a comic strip that depicts a scene related to the ideas of prejudice, justice, or taking a stand in today’s world using thought bubbles or dialogue that explains the image.

Something I found challenging in this task was selecting a scene that described the dawn raids the best.

Matariki Stars

LI: Identify Matariki as the Māori New Year and explain its cultural importance.

For this task I found out about the Matariki New Year and all about the 9 stars. Matariki is a time to celebrate the lunar new year and to spend time with family, make stronger bonds with eachother, Honnor our ancestors that have walked before us, and to look forward  into the futrue. Something I found interesting was that Matriki disappears in may and early june due to the sun because it can get to close which blocks our view of the 9 stars. It then reappears in late june or early july making it easier to see the star clusters.

Cinquain Poem

I have been exploring cinquain poems and all about there meanings. A cinquain poem has 5 lines, each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun for example Grey table the table is a noun and the adjective is grey. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions of a movment. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.  We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes. Something I found interesting about this was that this was a very challenging task and learnt to use more sientific words.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For this task I created a google my maps and I had to find out where the kuaka travels to and how many km can it travel. One of the refueling stations that the kuaka has to stop is  the Yellow Sea region, located between China and Korea. The kuka travels far out to have better breeding grounds and food for themselves. One interesting fact about there travel is that they can fly for a distance of approximately 11,000 kilometers.

Dot to Dot Conections

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For this task I created a dot to dot conection DLO about the kuaka/Godwit. The Kuaka is one of the worlds non- stop flying bird traviling upto 55 miles per hour under 11 days. I found some words that relate to the kuaka bird and I had to connect the words with another to make conections.

Working in groups

LI: To understand that everyone has a role to play when we are working in groups.

For this task I learnt that working with and from each other is an amazing learning expericens to learn from others. Also our task was to learn about the Kuaka bird and learning from each other tells us more about the Kuaka. Talking to others during your activities is that 1. You could get lost and not know what to do or 2. You don’t know what you are doing, so its good to talk to each other and get different ideas. Something I enjoyed about this task is that talking to each other in your group helps build confidence in yourself.
