Inquiry

This week’s assignment for Inquiry was on Legends of Learning.  The first task was about caring for and meeting the needs of different living beings (plant, herbivorous animal and carnivorous animal), providing them with the energy source corresponding to each species. The second task was about how the amount of matter in a substance is conserved when it changes form, even when it appears to vanish. The last task was about identifying decisions involving income, spending, saving, credit, and charitable giving – this is a hint at what our inquiry topic is next term.

Writing

In LS1, this term was full of exciting things like swimming .

Thinking back on the last few months, I’m so happy about the film festival. I’ve been busy with all sorts of subjects, but the best part about Term 3 for me was reading When it comes to reading, my favourite text I read was the deep sea I most enjoyed reading. Writing was super fun, especially when I got to persuasive writing. My favourite task in writing this term was speech  because I liked it when I was reading it. In Maths, I especially enjoyed when we learnt about fractions because I could know all my fractions. For our special Inquiry experiments, I really enjoyed ice melting because i like to do experiments In P.E. (Physical Education), I had a blast participating in soccer because I really like playing soccer with coach Harlem and I learnt how to show respect to others while playing soccer.

But you know what? I also found some areas where I can get even better. Like in reading I liked to do my blogs and read books. While I loved writing, I’ve noticed I need to work on everything Maths was interesting, but I want to get better at division. In our special projects, I realised I need to work on helping others. In P.E., I think I could improve, especially on good sportsmanship

Looking forward to the next term, I’m excited about swimming, PE and` athletics. To sum it up, this term was amazing, and I’m thankful for everything Thinking about what I liked and what I can improve helps me understand how to help others and get more work done I can’t wait to see what the next term brings, and I’m ready for athletics.

Setting Descriptions

This week I learnt about the setting which is one of the elements of a narrative story.  Here are my descriptions of 2 different settings.

The stairs lead to the sky.

I can hear the sea and waves are just flowing down the sand. The blissful flowers blossom as I walk up. It is very wonderful, the flowers smells like no other. I can feel my presence with God everytime I walk up.

The best thing about this experience is that there will be no more pain, anger and violence. Everything up here is unique, because my spirit is with the king himself.

The sound of battle cries and explosions linger in the distance.

This is a place of horror, fear and distraction, it will never end. A huge castle stands with smoke coming out of it.  It is surrounded by air carriers and aircrafts. The castle is nestled in a humongous mountain far above.

You smell blood as soon as you get up to the top. I can feel myself shivering with fear and I say to myself “I have never experienced this much fear in my life.” There is nothing unique about this place these are my final words “ NEVER COME UP HERE!”

First I had to pick two of the pictures Miss Tele’a gave us to choose from that had different settings. Then I had to write a paragraph that vividly describes the setting, using sensory details and descriptive language. For example if I was explaining about a castle on a hill I would write something more descriptive like this :  “I can see a huge castle in the distance that is on top of a huge hill.”  Here are the two images I picked and the descriptions I wrote for them.

Smart Searching

This week I leanrt about smart searching.

First I had to write four questions about our topic and then highlight the words that are most important to our topic in each question. Then I had to brain storm keywords for my smart surfing.

Next I had to choose one of the questions and use the keywords from that question to search for information on. Next I had to insert a link to a site I found with my keywords in the text box. After that I had to write my answer to my question that I found on the site.

Maori

This week I learnt about maori and a few words in maori,

First I had to make my kwl chart that stands for know wonder and learned. Then I had to write what i know about maori what i would like to know about maori and what I have learned. After that I had to translate english words to maori words by watching a video.

Next I had to use the line tool to match the kupu to its’ correct translation. Then I had to make a Kahoot, Booklet, Quizlet etc, Google Slide or a DLO so i could make my blog.

Fractions

This week I learnt about fractions

First I had to learn about what the denominator is. The denominator is the number at the bottom if you don’t know your numerator and denominator just call your denominator down because d for down. The denominator is also used in all fractions like 1/2. The denominator is also know for saying halves quarters and fifths,

Next I learnt about the numerator. The Numerator is the fraction showing how many of the parts indicated by the denominator are taken, for example, 2 in 2/3. The numerator is also the number at the top. So we have the denominator at the bottom and the numerator at the top.

Lastly I had to make a DLO about fractions.

Deep sea

This week I leanrt about the deep sea.

First I had to focuse on my prior knowledge, what i already know about the deep / Have I ever heard of deep sea creatures and what do i think scientists explore and study the deep ocean? and what items do they use, Then I had to write 5 things that victor saw on his dive.

Next I had to read my text and then write three reasons to show it would be impossible to scuba dive in the deepest parts of the ocean. After that I had to name four physical characteristics of deep dwelling fish which enable them to catch prey then write why has it been necessary for fish to develop these characteristics.

Lastly I had to make a DLO explaning about the deep sea.
